Keeping track of all the sexual misconduct scandals in the news these days feels like a really depressing game of Whac-A-Mole, but today marks an important development for Terry Crews. The actor is taking his allegations against Adam Venit to court.
TMZ reports that Crews is suing Venit, a Hollywood agent, for allegedly groping his genitals at an event last year. Crews has already filed a police report and police say the investigation is ongoing.
The details of the lawsuit are very disturbing. Crews alleges Venit stared at him “like a rabid dog, sticking his tongue in and out of his mouth provocatively.” Ew. According to Crews, he turned to America’s favorite waterboy, Adam Sandler—who employs Venit—for help, yelling, “Adam, come get your boy. He’s grabbing my nuts.”
Crews says Sandler was considerate enough to call him after the whole ordeal to make sure he was okay. He says Sandler seemed shocked by what had transpired. The next day, Crews called his agent at William Morris Endeavor—which happens to be the same agency that employs Venit—to tell him what happened. Crews says he received a call from Venit apologizing soon afterwards.
Crews claims to have met with WME chairman Ari Emanuel, who also offered his apologies. Crews says Emanuel also assured him that he shouldn’t fear retaliation, assert Venit “did not have the level of power despite his title as head of the Motion Picture Department.”
Crews is not convinced. In addition to suffering psychological trauma, Crews says he’s worried Venit’s pull in Hollywood could potentially harm his career. Venit represents some pretty heavy hitters, including Emma Stone, Eddie Murphy, and Diane Keaton. Crews previously stated he felt Venit "got a pass," when Venit was allowed to return to work after an 30-day unpaid suspension back in 2016.
