The Massachusetts State House has never heard of a spoiler alert. Next Tuesday a time capsule buried in 1795 by Paul Revere and then-Governor Sam Adams will be opened. But the State House has already ruined the mystery by revealing the capsule's contents after x-ray examinations.

Inside is a collection of silver and copper coins dating back to 1652, an engraved silver plate, a copper medal depicting George Washington, newspapers, the seal of the Commonwealth, cards and a title page from the Massachusetts Colony Records.

The inventory matches documentation from the last time the capsule was opened in 1855, so technically there was no mystery. Still, few people would have known what was inside. The State House could have kept the secret to entertain us all, sort of like our parents did with Santa. It would have been one of the few times we actually wanted the government to lie to us.
