For the first time in a long time, Guardians of the Galaxy wasn't the No. 1 movie in the country this weekend, and the box office wasn't complete ass.
The thriller No Good Deed, an entertaining, B-movie thriller starring Idris Elba as a murderous escaped convict with serious jealousy issues, seriously exceeded expectations by bringing in $24.5 million and defeating Dolphin Tale 2 at the box office.
The sleeper hit, which also stars Taraji P. Henson as a woman Elba's character terrorizes, only cost a reported $13 million to make.
Dolphin Tale 2, the sequel to the 2011, based-on-a-true-story hit about a dolphin with a prosthetic tail, was No. 2 with $16.5 million opening, while Guardians fell to No. 3 by bringing in $8 million.
Guardians has now made more than $300 million in North America and $600 million worldwide.
This week's other big debut, The Drop, starring Tom Hardy and the late James Gandolfini in his final role, was No. 6 with a $4.2 million debut weekend in a limited release.
