With the success of The Butler and 12 Years a Slave last year, the Martin Luther King, Jr. biopic Selma has a lot to live up to in the civil rights genre. Selma has a star-studded supporting cast going for it, though, with big names that include Oprah, Common, Wendell Pierce, and Tom Wilkinson. David Oyelowo will star as Dr. King.
The movie focuses on a small window of time, and will center on the famous march from Selma to Montgomery, Ala. in 1965. These first pictures from the set don’t reveal a whole lot in terms of plot points, although it’s clear that audiences will see the private, personal moments of King’s life as well as the public ones.
The movie will be released on Christmas Day, and you can bet there will be a ton of hype surrounding it.
