Attention, New Yorkers: In honor of National Doughnut Day, Entenmann's and the Salvation Army will give away free doughnuts and coffee in Madison Square Park (Broadway to Madison Ave., E 23rd St. to E 26th St.) until 3 p.m. today.

This time-tested tradition dates all the way back to the late 1930s:

Started by The Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the "Donut Lassies" who served the round treats to soldiers during World War I, National Donut Day is annually held on the first Friday of June.

Doughnuts and coffee will be available while supplies last, so get out there while they're still available. It's a nice day, so how much more incentive do you need?
