Ever been frustrated by how, in a movie, they have to cast a score of different kids to show one person growing up? Apparently, so was Richard Linklater (Before Sunrise, Dazed and Confused).

Today Linklater dropped the international trailer for his movie Boyhood, which stars Ethan Hawke, Patricia Arquette, and EllarColtrane. What makes the film so unique is that Linklater cast Coltrane in 2002, beginning filming when Coltrane was just seven years old. They then filmed the movie over the next 12 years, meaning we actually get to see our protagonist grow up on screen as his character evolves.

This novel concept—as well as the quality of the film itself—made Boyhood a hit at the Sundance Film Festival, and it will be released nationally on July 11.
