For Kerry Washington's Broomhilda, Davis and Washington dug deeper than eclectic garbs and semi-obscure homages. They both decided that, since Broomhilda is a slave, what she wears would not be her choice. Washington recently told Entertainment Weekly that whatever Broomhilda wore in each particular scene would reflect how Calvin Candie or his sister, Lara Lee, would have dressed her—namely, like a doll.  That, of course, all changes near the end of the filmbut we'll avoid spoilers here.
