Released four years before Alfred Hitchcock's death in 1980, Family Plot was the prolific director's final movie, and, fortunately, he went out on a high note. Adapting author Victor Canning's novel The Rainbird Pattern, Hitch, despite being 77 at the time, clearly had a blast making his big-screen swan song, maneuvering around a somewhat convoluted and twisty plot—about a couple of con artists who cross paths with a pair of serial kidnappers—with a delightfully morbid sense of humor (a few of the film's funniest moments take place in cemeteries, for instance).
