After helping popularize the micro-SIM with the iPad and iPhone 4 in 2010, Apple is shrinking SIM card technology yet again with the coming iPhone 5. The new phone, which will be announced September 12, is said to contain a so-called "nano-SIM" card, which will further reduce the footprint of the service-enabling chip.
That's a photo of it above compared with a micro-SIM (which is itself set within a traditional sim card) as obtained by the German blog ifun.de. We first told you about Apple's push for a nano SIM standard last summer, back when the thinner iPhone 5 was believed to be just around the corner. This time, odds are good that it will actually get announced.
