Yesterday's epic GoDaddy pwnage wasn't really pwnage at all, says GoDaddy CEO Scott Wagner. Though a member of rogue hacktivist collective Anonymous claimed responsibility for an outage that brought down both GoDaddy.com and thousands of its hosted sites, Wagner says the real source of the problem was a “series of internal network events that corrupted router data tables.”

GoDaddy and the sites that rely on it have since been restored and Wagner released a statement saying the problem was resolved.

"Once the issues were identified, we took corrective actions to restore services for our customers and GoDaddy.com. We have implemented measures to prevent this from occurring again," wrote Wagner.

GoDaddy says it will offer "a good faith gesture" to those customers who were affected.
