People can get pretty creative when it comes to finding ways to get out of work, but this dude's effort really takes the cake: 45-year-old Scott Bennett of Brookville, Pennsylvania actually took out an obituary in the local newspaper for his mother so he could get paid leave off of work. AKA, he faked his mother's death for a few days off.

He was eventually caught, of course - relatives of Bennett's mother called the paper to set the story straight, and Bennett's mother herself even went to the offices to prove that she's alive and not a ghost or a zombie or anything like that. When police got involved, they discovered that Bennett had been the one to place the ad because he had taken time off work and didn't want to get in trouble for it. He was charged disorderly conduct as a result.

Gee, imagine how awkward family dinners are going to be after that
