RESPECT THE ARCHITECT.

I feel pressure to do the Sulu role justice, because growing up it meant a lot to see George Takei on television. To see him as a helmsman of a spaceship and not throwing kicks or chops or speaking with an accent was very meaningful to me.

BEWARE OF RABID FANS.

I’ve been very stunned at the different types of people that are Star Trek fans. There have been a lot of favors asked to get things from the set. Stoner fans are less scary because they don’t have their wits about them, and you can protect yourself in a knife fight. They’re not very sober, and you can easily take advantage of that.

TUNE IN.

For my band [Viva La Union] to be successful, it takes the ability to focus on one task at a time. As far as competing with other celeb-rock bands, Keanu Reeves seems like a strong guy, and he could probably kick my ass. But Jared Leto wears mascara, so we could probably take him.

LOOK GOOD.

I use a lot of products that have high oil content on my skin at all times. Lots of musk is the way to go; high-powered musk, to be specific. And spend thousands of dollars at T.J. Maxx.

GO GREEN.

I went to Home Depot and bought a lot of fluorescent lights. And I started to drink my own urine. I haven’t gotten a hybrid yet because my wife wants a big car for our new baby. But I have stopped using paper bags at the grocery store. Now I just use a cadre of assistants to carry everything.
