Toronto trio Notfortheo released their latest single “interlock” today, a song blurring the lines between rap, indie rock, and chillwave.

Alternating between softly rapped verses and a ghostly chorus, Notfortheo touch on subjects like doomscrolling, unwanted memories, and the feeling of being overwhelmed in the digital age.

“Interlocked and it’s been far too long/scroll through everything/before it’s gone,” they sing on the chorus.

Along with the song is a glitchy, psychedelic video showing shots of the trio performing the track on what looks like a dark beach and in infrared in various locations. The video follows the same drugged-out feeling that the song evokes.

“Interlock” follows up their debut single “Just a Little Bit,” which premiered on The Zane Lowe Show back in August. The host also shouted them out and claimed they would soon break out.

Theo Blackman, Villabeatz, and Jonathan Kennedy Rogers all grew up in Toronto music/art scene.
