MoneySign Suede was born Jaime Brugada Valdez. His attorney Nicholas Rosenberg tells the Los Angeles Times he received a call around midnight on Tuesday informing him that MoneySign Suede was fatally stabbed in the shower at the Correctional Training Facility in California. “They said it was a stabbing to the neck,” Rosenberg said. “They said they’re investigating.”

Rosenberg mentioned Valdez had been attacked prior to his death.

MoneySign Suede’s career took off with “Back to the Bag,” which was released two months before he started serving time behind bars, and eclipsed a million views while in prison. It now stands at 7.1 million, with 49.5M total views on his YouTube page.

“I didn’t really know how to feel because I was in jail,” Suede said in a 2021 interview with The Passion of the Weiss. “It’s hard to focus on that shit and feel hopeful. You can’t really force yourself to be happy. I didn’t really feel it like that, you know?”

Suede dropped two albums, Parkside Baby and Parkside Santa, last year, and appeared to be teasing the arrival of a new mixtape just yesterday.

“People are very shocked,” Rosenberg said. “He was a very popular guy, very mild-mannered. People loved him.”
