Fredo Says He Has A Mixtape Coming With Nines

Speculation has been rife for years, but a recent interview with Rolling Stone UK adds at least a little weight to all the talk.

Fredo has been announced as the latest digital cover star for Rolling Stone UK and he revealed quite a few gems.

Speaking to Seth Pereira, Fredo opened up about his new album, Unfinished Business, as well as business ventures, his thoughts on the music industry and a status update on his career.

One of the biggest nuggets, however, is confirmation that the years-long talk of a collaboration with Nines is finally coming to something. In 2021, under an Instagram post announcing the release date and tracklist of Money Can’t Buy Happiness, a fan asked whether a Nines feature was on the cards. In response, Fredo replied with just “what about me nines mixtape this summer”. Although nothing more was said, rumours and speculation flourished.

Two and a half years later and we finally have confirmation that something is indeed in the works. In fact, although he barely elaborates, he also confirms that work has actually begun on recording something. When questioned on the subject of a collab mixtape, he replies simply, “Yeah, this year for sure. We started recording it already.”

What that means and whether or not anything will ever see the light of day is still open for discussion, but at least there’s progress.

Elsewhere in the interview, the rapper discusses business ventures like Kick Game and his own newly-minted fashion imprint, PG, and record label, also titled PG (Parental Guidance). “I was independent even when I was signed,” he said. “All them other albums you heard, I think maybe the label got me one beat; my label has never got me a feature or nothing. I’ve always been real self-sufficient.”

Fredo also goes on to speak on the break between Unfinished Business and the two albums released in 2021, explaining, “I just needed a break. I just needed to live, and two of my friends had passed away so, yeah, I just needed a break and just to go and enjoy life for a bit.”

And when asked about the track “Quit Rapping”, he elaborates, “I feel like there are different reasons why I feel to quit rapping, because I know it’s not gonna last forever anyway. I can’t put all my eggs in that basket, and sometimes just the stuff that comes with it can get tiring.”
