Two years ago to the day, Abra Cadabra released the Mixed Emotions EP, a surprising four-piece that revealed a new, more melodic side to the North London rapper. Now, Abra returns with its sequel, but this time around he’s found more of a balance between the rough and the smooth.
Mixed Emotions II was signposted yesterday with the release of lead single “For You”, a melodious pledge of devotion driven by a sturdy Afroswing bounce from producer M1OnTheBeat. The track also came with a visual from director Biggz that set Abz and his other half in a plush, palatial mansion and some crisp all-white trackies to match.
For the rest of the EP, Abra’s reined in at least some of the melody, tempering it with his hallmark, diesel-throated rhyming and some big, beefy 808s.
Production on the remaining three tracks comes from Chalabanta, BenzMuzik, Legacy, Rvei, Juggy Beatz and in yet another departure from Part I, there are no guest features here—just pure Abra Cadabra magic, from start to finish.
