The 2014 MTV VMAs took place last night, where eight awards were given out during a two-hour broadcast. That's less than half of the actual 18 awards that were up for grabs this year, which tells you the sad state of affairs for awards shows. Unfortunately they have become less about championing the people who did some amazing things, and more about self-promotion and selling ads.
Being the kind, respectable people that we are, Complex put together a list of a dozen awards that weren't given out last night, but should have been, ranging from the Lifetime Booty Achievement award to "Best Trap Arms." Not for nothing, our awards do have one thing in common with the VMAs: Not one award was given out to Iggy Azalea.
The “Jay Z Never Change” Award: Juicy J
Juicy does not age.
The “Interesting Career Choice” Award: Cellists performing with Iggy Azalea
They'll never be able to tell their parents what they really do for a living.
The “Never Invited Back” Award: Jay Pharoah
Just plain embarrassing to watch.
The "Dwyane Wade Lifetime Achievement" Award: Usher
It's finally time to face facts: Usher will never be Usher again.
The “Overstayed Their 15 Minutes of Fame” Award: 5 Seconds of Summer
Who?
The “Big Come Up” Award: Big Sean
Clap for 'em.
The “Best Trap Arms” Award: Taylor Swift
Get 'em, girl.
The “RiFF RAFF Shade” Award: Ariana Grande
No love for Jody Highroller from Ariana.
The “Creep of the Night” Award: Usher
Bruh.
The “Industry Plant” Award: Fifth Harmony
Looks like that contract with Simon Cowell and The X Factor is paying dividends.
The "Lifetime Booty Achievement" Award: Jennifer Lopez
#Amen.
The “Shameless Promotion” Award: DJ Mustard
Only DJ Mustard would play only DJ Mustard beats during every commercial break.
The “Boost Mobile Rihanna” Award: Rita Ora
Keep tryin', ma.
The “Alphet Copycat” Award: RiFF RAFF and Katy Perry
It's impossible to make a fashion statement when the statement was made over a decade ago. Word to Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake.
The “Miley Cyrus Shade” Award: Jennifer Lopez
The side eye from J. Lo is off the charts.
The “Try to Steal Beyoncé's Shine” Award: G-Unit
How you gonna drop an EP when Bey is changing lives on stage?
The “Pettiest Moment of the Night” Award: Gwen Stefani
So that's how you really feel about Taylor Swift's performance? Got it.
The “Amateur Hour” Award: Everyone but Beyoncé
#True.
