A Massachusetts man who intervened in a dog attack Wednesday accidentally killed his neighbor with a crossbow, BuzzFeed News reports.
The man, who has not been identified, was called a "good Samaritan" by the authorities and no foul play is suspected. Joshua Jadusingh, a 27-year-old man, was found on the scene in the town of Adams with a fatal crossbow injury. There was also a child found unharmed in the apartment.
"Responding officers and a K9 Unit found two mature male pitbull dogs – both with a history of being aggressive - engaging in a volatile confrontation," according to the Berkshire District Attorney's Office. "The dogs then turned the attack onto responding officers."
The neighbor heard the noise happening inside Jadusingh's apartment, called 911, then forced himself inside. He "could hear somebody screaming for help, saying, 'please shoot the dogs,'" Berkshire County District Attorney Andrea Harrington told reporters at a news conference, according to ABC News.
He shot one of the dogs with his crossbow. "The arrow struck one of the dogs, went through a door, and then struck the individual being mauled as he was attempting to barricade himself from the attack," the district attorney's office continued.
The neighbor is "very distraught" about the entire ordeal and was good friends with Jadusingh, Harrington said. He is currently cooperating with authorities as the incident is still currently under investigation.
