Leave it to Apple to break something and then market the fix as innovative. The tech giant is reportedly gearing up to release a second generation of AirPods that will fix the fact that the wireless earbuds are so easy to drop.

According to an unnamed source who spoke with MySmartPrice, the new pair of AirPods will feature an easy-grip coating, built-in Siri and improved bass with no change to the exterior shape of the earbuds. However, that fix comes with a cost, and we mean that quite literally. Rumor has it that the next generation of AirPods will cost a full $40 more than their already pricey antecedents, retailing for $200.

Users will be given a little bit of pizzaz for that extra cash, though. MSP says that the new AirPods will be available in black as well as Apple's standard white. There's no telling how this will affect the memes, but we're happy that, at the very least, Earl Sweatshirt will have options

The Apple rumor mill has been absolutely humming along in 2019, with reports of three new iPhones, a reworked iPod and a streaming service in the works. Previous reports about the new AirPods included the possibility of health monitoring technology, noise cancellation and water resistance.

In the headphone space, talk of Apple-branded over-ear headphones continues to linger.

"Apple to have own-brand, high-end over-ear headphones with all-new design; to be as convenient as AirPods with better sound quality; shipments to begin [fourth quarter 2018] at earliest," KGI Securities Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said last February. While they still haven't shown up, we have no reason to believe the headphones won't be on Apple's raft of new products.
