Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is already shaking things up in congress by proving to the naysayers that progressives *squints* have clothes?
On Thursday, one journalist by the name of Eddie Scarry decided to post an overtly misogynist and totally creepy photo of the new Democratic representative on Twitter. He captioned the photo, “Hill staffer sent me this pic of Ocasio-Cortez they took just now. I'll tell you something: that jacket and coat don't look like a girl who struggles."
This smug post has since been deleted, but not without all of Twitter dragging it for filth. It got bodied, or ratioed, with thousands of replies within an hour but virtually no support.
Ocasio-Cortez responded to the original post, taking the higher road. “Dark hates light - that’s why you tune it out,” she tweeted. “Shine bright & keep it pushing.”
Scarry's tweet followed a New York Times interview when Ocasio-Cortez revealed that she didn’t have enough money to move to D.C. until she’s inaugurated. Conservatives have since been trying to tear down that claim, while Scarry went to invasive lengths to question her ability to wear a jacket.
On the bright side, it produced the best meme this week: a copy-paste of Scarry's original text over photos of actually ridiculous jackets and characters. Like Andy in Devil Wears Prada.
