Remember when Colin Kaepernick received a lot of flack from San Francisco 49ers fans for wearing a Dolphins hat while partying on July 4? Well, that's nothing compared to the anger Carolina Panthers fans will be feeling after reading what Cam Newton admitted in a recent interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Q: The Panthers came pretty close to sweeping the Falcons last season. How tough is it playing your hometown team?

A: It's always a heavily critiqued game. ... I've always been a Falcons fan, and I'm still a Falcons fan except for those two times a year.

"I'm still a Falcons fan except for those two times a year." Nice save at the end, Cam. Still, given the fact that Atlanta is one of the Panthers' division rivals, you gotta imagine that this revelation won't sit well with fans who expect to their franchise quarterback to whole-heartedly ride with Carolina.

We expect a "my words were taken out of context" statement from Newton very, very soon.
