The Biggest First-Round Upsets in NBA History

7. (6) Houston Rockets vs. (3) Los Angeles Lakers

Season: 1981
Series: Rockets in three.

Houston was two games below .500 and the sixth seed. The Lakers were 26 games over .500 and the third seed. But the Rockets had vets in Rudy Tomjanovich and Calvin Murphy along with a young Moses Malone in his prime. That trio out-played Magic and Kareem, leading the Rockets to a 2-1 series win. Houston continued to surprise the basketball world all the way to the Finals where they lost to Bird's Celtics in six games.
