The concept of putting together a sneaker's upper with a mismatched sole is a bona fide trend at this point. When it's done correctly, the outcome is interesting and deserves to be talked about. A few weeks ago, there was a Minnetonka Moccasin upper placed on the sole of a Nike Air Huarache, and it received a positive response. Another designer, Tim Lewis, has a similar concept and he's going to start selling it to the public.
Lewis has posted multiple images of a Minnetonka x Nike Free 5.0 hybrid sneaker on his Instagram account and plans to peddle them on his Big Cartel store. The sneakers are not yet available, but they have a retail price of $315.
According to Lewis' store description, "Matoaka Moc Custom is a custom shoe is hand-made from a Minnetonka Fringe boot imported leather upper with a Nike Free 5.0 sole. It takes about 2-3 weeks to get to customer but most of the time sooner. We ask that you provide us with this time amount of time so we can provide you with the best hand-made product possible."
