Christmas Day is about an hour away, but tragedy has struck. Violence has marred this season's sneaker releases, and the retail scene just took another ugly turn.

This evening, a man went to make a purchase at a Foot Locker in Oakwood Center Mall in suburban New Orleans, and he lost his life. According to CBS News, the individual was walking away from the cash register and he was shot in the store.

The police report, however, doesn't say that the violent act stemmed from someone trying to get another man's sneakers. "Obviously, based on witness accounts, he walked in with purpose of shooting this particular individual," the town's sheriff, Newell Normand, said.

After this happened, as one would expect, all hell broke lose in the mall. And the shooter, according to CBS, could face a second-degree murder charge.

Even if this feud wasn't over someone attempting robbery over a pair of Air Jordan XIs, it's never good to hear that an event like this took place, especially in a setting as familiar as a sneaker store.

UPDATE:

The shooter in this murder has been named, and it's 25-year-old Gary M François, who is being held in custody for gunning down 24-year-old James Vaughn, according to CBS affiliate 4WWL.
