Before Kevin Durant was an international basketball star with his own signature sneaker, he was just a kid playing ball. He was just as hyped as anyone else to get his newest pair and rock them on the court, channeling his favorite players.
In a teaser video released by Nike Basketball on YouTube today, "A Nike Basketball Experience," KD recounts the first signature pair that his mother got him. A pair of Vince Carters. He remembers thinking, “Wow, these are the shoe this guys wears on the court. I feel a part of him.”
For the launch of a new signature sneaker (rumored to be for Kyrie Irving), Durant wants his fans to feel the same way he did when he got that pair. “I want the consumer to connect with me on another level. When they put my shoes on it’s a part of me,” he says. “Stay who you are, always put the game first.”
