Sneaker culture is HUGE. It's bigger than the sneaker conventions in your city. It's larger than what's depicted in a forum or social media site. And it most certainly extends well beyond American soil. With all the different traditions and socioeconomics across the globe, how does that play a role in sneaker culture?

Hypebeast took a trip to Brazil and spoke with two pioneers that have helped spearhead streetwear and sneaker culture in the South American country. Ricardo Nunes, founder of SneakersBR, and Christian Resende, founder of Cartel 011 and CZO, shed light on some eye-opening topics that have influenced Brazil's infatuation with sneakers.

Unlike the limited-edition and retro hoops craze in the States or the dominance of runners in the UK, Brazilian 'heads love sneakers highlighted with crazy technology. And the more visible the better, like Nike Shox, Air Max 360s, and adidas Springblades.

Buying sneakers is also a completely different ball game in Brazil. Due to the country's import tax, retailers—not resellers—basically have to jack up prices. So, those Flyknit Air Maxes that cost us $225 USD will run Brazlian 'heads 1,000 BRL, or a little over $400 USD. It's because of this that Nike Store Brazil actually allows consumers to pay for sneakers in 10 monthly installments. Seriously, go check for yourself.
