Jean-Luc Godard's "3-D essay" Goodbye to Language (Adieu au Langage) took the top honors at the National Society of Film Critics awards. It beat out Birdman, Mr. Turner and Boyhood for Best Picture. The critics' society met today in New York to cast its votes for the 2014 awards. Here's the list of winners:

Best Director: Richard Linklater (Boyhood)
Best Non-fiction Film: Citizenfour
Best Screenplay: Wes Anderson (The Grand Budapest Hotel)
Best Cinematography: Mr. Turner
Best Actor: Timothy Spall (Mr. Turner)
Best Actress: Marion Cotillard (Two Days, One Night)
Best Supporting Actor: J.K. Simmons (Whiplash)
Best Supporting Actress: Patricia Arquette (Boyhood)
