Amazon is just dipping their toe into the original series genre, and it looks like they’ve got a winner with Transparent.
The series stars Jeffrey Tambor as a family patriarch who, it is discovered by his adult children, has been dressing as a woman for most of his adult life. While this comes as a bit of his surprise to the kids (Gaby Hoffmann, Jay Duplass, and Amy Landecker), his wife (Judith Light) has known about it the whole time and sees it as a “private kink.”
While denial seems to work for his wife, Tambor does not have as easy a time smoothing things over with his kids. If the trailer is any indication, expect a lot of heartfelt talks and some really nice moments between both father and children as well as among the siblings themselves.
The show was created by Jill Soloway, who won the Directing Award at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and was a writer on Six Feet Under. Transparent will be available for streaming on September 26.
