That's how you do marketing, kinda.

Samsung had some big publicity last night at the Oscars.

Outside of the new ads they debuted for their new products, the biggest moment for them was the selfie Ellen planned to shoot with Meryl Streep, which the likes of Brad Pitt, Bradley Cooper, Jared Leto, Jennifer Lawrence, Kevin Spacey, Channing Tatum, and Julia Roberts joined in on. It was shot with Samsung's yet-to-be-released Galaxy S5, and the selfie ended up becoming the most retweeted post in Twitter's history. Yet, just 12 minutes prior, Ellen was busy uploading pictures backstage with the help of her trusted iPhone.

No ones expects her to switch to a new phone just because a company paid her to use it while on air, but it blows for Samsung when eagle-eyed Twitter users can catch details such as this. Reminds us of when Alicia Keys was paid to promote BlackBerry, which she said she used exclusively, but her tweets afterward showed she posted from an iPhone.

Either way, the company had some elegant ads for the Galaxy S5, Gear 2, and Gear Fit to accompany Ellen's selfie promotion. Like their ads say, “Only a few things deserve to be gold on such a big night."
