In the first half of Girls' first season, Adam Sackler (played by Adam Driver) was the most detestable character on screen. He was solely this neanderthal-like misanthrope whose mind functioned like a blend of Hustler magazine and American Psycho. Sackler was impossible to like, treating his girlfriend, Hannah (Lena Dunham), like "monkey meat" and going so far as to pee on her. But it turns out, he was just a misunderstood gentle giant who turned a corner when he finally fell in love with Hannah.
And viewers started to like him. In the second half of season one, Sackler became a hopelessly romantic anti-hero, one whom we can't quite understand why we love so much. Maybe it has to do with the fact that he'd spew quotables that could rival the most intuitive philosopher's ruminations. Like these:
1. On adopting your significant other's friends:
2. On growth and self-preservation:
3. On companionship:
4. On human nature:
5. On comfort:
6. On personal connection:
7. On self-interest:
8. On the media:
9. On boredom:
10. On self-pity:
11. On self-worth:
12. On honor:
13. On communication:
14. On lust:
15. On true love:
