Over the weekend, Rita Ora’s bisexual, girl-gang anthem “Girls” fueled debates over perpetuated stereotypes about girls kissing other girls. In the wake of backlash from Hayley Kiyoko, Kehlani, and others, Ora responded to the criticism on Monday by sharing that she’s had relationships with both men and women.
“‘Girls’ was written to represent my truth and is an accurate account of a very real and honest experience in my life,” she wrote in a post on Twitter. “I have had romantic relationships with women and men throughout my life and this is my personal journey.”
Now Cardi B is chiming in to defend the song, sharing that she too has had relationships with women in the past—a fact that she shared years ago on Love & Hip Hop and in several past interviews. “We never try to cause harm or had bad intentions with the song .I personally myself had experiences with other woman ,shiieeett with a lot of woman ! I though the song was a good song and i remember my experience," she wrote.
Cardi also addressed backlash she’s previously received for using the term “dyke” in an offensive way. "I know i have use words before that i wasn’t aware that they are offensive to the LGBT community .I apologize for that .Not everybody knows the correct "terms "to use.I learned and i stopped using it." she wrote.
