Sound Pellegrino is one of those labels whose output you instinctively check out without any knowledge of the artist in question. So when they announced that their first ever album release would come from German producer Matthias Zimmermann, we knew we were in for something special. Fortunately, but unsurprisingly, Zimmermann's self-titled album (out now) does not disappoint. Take "Cassy", his collab with singer Marouann. A luxurious, invigorating piece of laid-back funk, it sees Zimmermann's sparse funk squelches expand and pulse gently behind Marouann's deeply affecting vocals. The rest of the 17-tracker sits well together, combining moments of nuanced songwriting with straight-up club tracks; it's no wonder he's found fans in HudMo, Martyn, and Laurent Garnier.
