PROMO: A+E Networks and iHeartMedia Aim to “Shine a Light” on Race Relations in America

Music’s greatest minds join together for racial progress.

When a pressing issue demands our collective attention, there really is no better way to seize it than through the power of music. LiveAid, Hope for Haiti, The Concert for New York—all of these showed how powerful and effective a tool music can be to raise awareness and action for a very meaningful matter.

On November 18, a new concert event joins their ranks with the urgent goal of fostering progress on race relations in America. Inspired by the recent tragedy in Charleston, where nine people senselessly lost their lives in a racially-fueled act of hatred, the concert will feature some of the biggest names in music, who are joining together to shine a light on one of America’s most pressing issues.

It’s fitting then that the concert will be called “‘Shining a Light: A Concert for Progress on Race in America.” Live from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, the evening’s lineup will include performances from Zac Brown Band, Eric Church, Jamie Foxx, Rhiannon Giddens, Tori Kelly, John Legend, Miguel, Pink, Jill Scott, Ed Sheeran, Sia, Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Pharrell Williams, and more. In addition to raising awareness, the concert will also help raise money for the Fund for Progress on Race in America, powered by United Way Worldwide. The goal of the Fund is to provide financial support to individuals and organizations working to foster understanding and eliminate bias.

On November 20, viewers can watch the event on any of A+E Networks family of channels, including A&E, History, Lifetime, H2, LMN and FYI. It will also be broadcasted on iHeartMedia radio stations across the country and on the iHeartRadio digital platform. Immediately following the concert, A&E will air a one-hour special, “Shining a Light: Conversations on Race in America,” in which artists such as Pharrell Williams and John Legend will engage with a diverse group of citizens from communities that are at the center of the national conversation on racial inequality and violence, including Charleston, Baltimore, Chicago and Ferguson.
