With his Otherness album on the way, Kindness has been getting a lot of love recently—not least on BBC Radio 1, with lots of plays and interviews with throughout the past week. His latest track, "This Is Not About Us", is a laid-back jaunt with lilting vocals placed over a simple but effective percussion that pitches up and down through the track to give an effect of undulating sounds.
The overall effect is a sound that could easily sit alongside the best of fringe trip-hop acts like Lemon Jelly or Hexstatic. That said, the key element in this track is the fluid vocals, bringing "This Is Not About Us" out of the realms of trip-hop throwback into 21st century, down-tempo soul. Check it out below.
