DJ Khaled's seventh studio album, Suffering From Success, is in stores today and as much as we appreciate him as a character, his new songs don’t feel as fresh as “We Takin’ Over” did in 2007. His albums—or “movies,” as he would call them—have featured everyone from Jay Z and Nas to Lil Wayne and Young Jeezy to Plies and Trick Daddy. But what else is left that we haven’t already heard?
The success of Khaled’s mega-posse cuts has inspired collectives like Maybach Music Group, GOOD Music and YMCMB to follow a similar formula, which in turn makes Khaled’s new project feel a little less special. We’re not counting Khaled out; every once in a while, he’ll drop a smash like “I’m on One” to remind you that on his best days he is the Phil Jackson of hip-hop. Still, we can’t deny that we’re getting a little tired of hearing some combination of Rick Ross, Weezy, and Ace Hood on the same track over and over again.
To help refresh his repertoire, Complex came up with a few outside-of-the-box song ideas that we hope to hear on one of his next albums. Check out the list of Songs We'd Like To Hear On The Next DJ Khaled Album.
