As we discussed (and drooled over) last week, the once reclusive D’Angelo announced a surprise two-man show with Questlove of The Roots at Brooklyn Bowl last week. The event (which obviously sold out immediately) went down last night and now the videos and stories are starting to trickle in.

The pair put together an eclectic set, hitting Brown Sugar and Voodoo classics, tracks from the D’s upcoming James River (which Questo promises is “almost finished”) and covers of SOS Band, Sly and the Family Stone and Prince. Watch the pair perform Prince’s “New Position” above and D’Angelo’s own “Alright” and “Mother’s Son,” plus a little conversation down below and check out the boys’ complete setlist.

Setlist:

Go Back to the Thing/Let Me Have It All
Cosmic Slop
Woman's Gotta Have It/The Line
Caught Me Smiling
Tell Me If You Care
Our Love Has Died
Alright/Mother's Son
Really Love
New Position/Africa

Encore: Lady
