Stop us if you've heard this one: 50 Cent was shot nine times in front of his grandmother's old home in South Jamaica, Queens on May 24, 2000. He was seated in the back of a car when an assailant approached the car and and fired nine shots at close range, hitting the rapper in both legs, his arm, hip, right hand, the left side of his face, and his chest.
The alleged shooter, Darryl "Hommo" Baum, was killed three weeks later. It took five months for 50 to completely recover; he was subsequently dropped from his label. This, of course, became the basis of one of the biggest stories in rap history. He revived his buzz via mixtapes and went on to become the biggest rapper in the world.
