When The Expendables was released in 2010, it was a showcase for legendary action stars like Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham to prove they still had it. The film went on to blow up all expectations on its way to a $274 million global box office haul. This set the stage for the sequel, The Expendables 2, which was loaded with even more action heroes like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chuck Norris, and Bruce Willis. For the third installment of the franchise, The Expendables 3 (in theaters August 15), Lionsgate and Stallone, who also wrote the screenplay, have added four young guns to their roster of mercenaries: Kellan Lutz, Victor Ortiz, Glen Powell, and Ronda Rousey.
In late May, just before the cast was to invade the Cannes Film Festival by rolling into town on a tank, writer David Eckstein had an opportunity to sit down with what might just be the next generation of action stars. The four spoke about what drew them to the project, what it's like to work alongside their idols, and how they'd fare as "real-life Expendables." Click on the link below to check it out.
