A video of two gorillas performing oral sex in front of Bronx Zoo onlookers has gone viral.

According to TMZ, the encounter took place on Wednesday, and as you can see (because we know you will) in the video below, their interaction started off quite innocent. It even drew an “aww” from the crowd. That is, until it was clear what was going down, no pun intended.

Parents quickly averted the eyes of their children, while laughter filled the room of visitors looking at these gorillas simply trying to live as normal of a life as they can in an enclosure. Meanwhile, as others stepped away in the midst of what was happening, the person recording not only got closer, but also zoomed in at one point.

“I was shocked and had no idea that was a ‘natural’ act,” the videographer, who has chosen to remain anonymous, toldThe New York Post. “I was in the gorilla exhibit with my 4-year-old daughter and niece…My wife had to stay out of the exhibit with my sleeping son, so I wanted to capture a lot of video. Then this magic happened.”

As unusual as the display may appear to many, the bonobos, a slightly smaller version of a chimpanzee, have become known for their sexual behavior. The Post cites the book Bonobos: A Forgotten Ape from co-author and primatologist Frans de Waal, which states this species of primates not only engages in oral sex and mutual masturbation, but also exhibits sexual fluidity.
