In a viral video shared on TikTok earlier this month, an Airbnb guest claimed the property she was renting was broken into and her stuff was stolen.

In the clip, which was uploaded by TikTok user Sylvia (@sylpal), she showed how the keypad entry lock for the Dallas, Texas apartment was broken. She then proceeded to detail all the items that were stolen, which included a pair of AirPods, her iPad, and a good chunk of her makeup. Curiously, though, none of the TVs in the property were taken and it was only Sylvia’s items missing.

When she contacted the authorities, she was informed there was no sign of forced entry at the property. These details immediately set the comments of the clip, which has over two million views, to pin the blame on the hosts. Some even suggested it was a “set up.”

As Sylvia pointed out in the video, Airbnb hosts aren’t required to change the entry code to properties when a new guest arrives. So it is possible a previous guest was responsible for the robbery, although Airbnb’s terms and conditions advise that hosts “should update the combination between stays and be sure no one else has access to the keys during the reservation.”

Sylvia has yet to share an update on the situation, even if the community of TikTok has already made its mind up on who’s behind the crime.
