An unusual neon blue light flooded the Manhattan sky on Thursday night, sparking concern and panic among NYC residents.

NBC New York reports the light was a result an electrical emergency at a ConEd power plant. The NYPD confirmed that authorities were investigating a transformer explosion in Astoria. Officials are urging residents to avoid 20th Avenue and 31st Street.

A spokesperson for ConEd told NBC that multiple fires broke out after a "couple of transformers tripped offline." The explosions caused power outages in several Queens neighborhoods. Power is also down at LaGuardia Airport. As a result of the electrical emergency, the FAA reported there was a ground stop at LaGuardia Airport until 10:30 a.m. Friday.

The entire LaGuardia airport has lost power. This is gonna be an interesting night.
