John Varvatos Readies New York Fashion Week Return

We don't really fuck with John Varvatos. I mean, we don't have a single post tagged "John Varvatos" in the illustrious and notable three year history of this great website. That is until today, as WWD reported this morning that John Varvatos has confirmed that he would be returning to show his new men's collection at the upcoming New York Fashion Week: Men's after a seven year hiatus of showing in Milan.

Varvatos initially moved his collection overseas to combat the misalignment between Fashion Week and the menswear calendar—exactly what the new Fashion Week: Men's is meant to remedy. "I would have shown June 18 in Milan, but in New York, I’d have had to show on Sept. 10 or 12. We’re into the next season by that time and every retailer and editor has already seen the collection," Varvatos tells WWD. After recently opening a store in Detroit, Varvatos felt that it was important that he officially come back to America.

This is a big step for us whether you realize it or not. Even if you're not a fan, Varvatos is a huge name with a huge business, something the new dedicated men's week was desperately missing. Also, it's worth noting that Varvatos F/W 15 was a sleeper hit. So maybe things are looking up? This provides a big brand for the fledgling event to center on and could possibly help sway other notable American fashion ex-pats like Thom Browne to really get in on the action. Fingers crossed that Varvatos finally has a positive trend on his hands.
