Whether it's 1885 or 2014, when you hear the words "gang" or "outlaws," you know you should probably steer clear of those people. Even though most people know a gang when they see one, your typical gang member today is a lot different than the gang members of the 19th century.

This slideshow created by the folks over at Buzzfeed shows the evolution (or de-evolution) of gangsters over time, from all parts of this country, and from different corners of the world. From suits to tattoos, and from trench coats to leather jackets, the photos provide an interesting timeline of what it means to look the part of a "criminal," while also serving to "remind us that gangsters are real people, not just characters in film, TV, and music."
