Ukrainian heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko has never been one to back down from a challenge, even one as daunting as illiteracy. In collaboration with Monotype, a font technology specialist, Klitschko designed a font that is easy to read. To create his “fist font,” Klitshcko dipped his gloves in blue paint and punched out all 26 letters of the alphabet onto white canvas. Monotype scanned and digitized the letters, generating a unique and bold typeface. The original prints are being sold on eBay, and all profits will be donated to A Heart For Children, a charity that seeks to eradicate child illiteracy worldwide. While the font can be downloaded for free from Monotype’s website, donations are encouraged.
Frank Wildenberg, managing director of Monotype, said of the project, “We’re proud that Monotype is in the corner of a world heavyweight boxing champion helping children to read.”
