Yohji Yamamoto showed his Y-3 Fall/Winter 2014 collection for the first time during Paris Men's Fashion Week and, again, presents a solid body of work. With the usual emphasis on functionality, this season had a subtle retro feel to it, coming mostly from the pops of color against the mostly black collection. Kanye West even made a point to attend the show while he's in Paris.
When it came to texture, the designer incorporated distressed fabrics and faux fur with techy sportswear (the french terry cargo pant will be a hit) and shiny leather. But what was the most obvious take-away from the collection was the Superheroes reference that was displayed throughout the show. Yohji wanted to design clothes that he thought superheroes would wear while still paying "homage to the couturiers of the 60's." Shirts that donned "TO BE CONTINUED..." and "SO WE MEET AGAIN." came down the runway, giving a playful edge to the rest of the collection.
And, of course, the footwear from this season was great. There were multi-fabric trainers, a clean Chelsea boot, and some crazy tribal-motif high tops that will definitely be a street-style favorite.
