This video is awesome on two levels, but we're not sure which we love more. First, it provides a great profile of London-based tattoo artist Mr. X as he talks about when and how the obsession began for him, shares the stories behind some of his pieces, reveals his past issues with drug use, and speaks fondly of his son.
Presented in black-and-white, the short film is centered around Mr. X as he sits at a table and it feels as if he is talking to no one because the interviewer is never seen. The cadence of his voice and his natural pauses feel contemplative and real as opposed to other interviews where the subject is simply answering questions so that they can get to the next instead of engaging in conversation.
The second thing that makes this video awesome is the way director Alex Nicholson and his crew used special effects to completely erase X's many tattoos at the beginning of the video and to slowly uncover them as he talks. This is a must watch:
