After nine months of preparation, the Museum of Modern Art has joined Tumblr with a blog made exclusively for teens. MoMA Teens provides free art courses (the New York Times lists 3D-printing and animated GIF workshops) and teen-centric gallery content in hopes to reach their target audience where they live: the Internet.
The MoMA is a little late to the Tumblr party, with museums like SF MoMA, Mass MoCA, and MoMA PS1 already months and pages ahead. Their focus on teenagers may be the distinction they need to stand out from the rest, being that the demographic of Tumblr users is younger than any other social media site, according to Compete Pulse. Maybe other museums like the Guggenheim or The Metropolitan Museum of Art will follow suit.
Follow teen.moma.org for more information and to take advantage of all the cool programming that the MoMA has to offer.
