Luxury brands are no stranger to slapping absurd prices on regular items you could get for thousands less. Following in that same tradition is Hermès’ blue basketballs priced at $12,900. Created to celebrate the reopening of its Beverly Hills boutique, of course it had to have a price that only the bank accounts of its rich clientele could afford.

If Hermès told us that it would raise our average points per game, and turn us to NBA pros we would be all over it. But the reasons for the absurd price are the usual pitch of “quality” and “artisanal craftsmanship”. If you’re not broke from your $1,000 YSL skates purchase, give these a look. But hurry, only two were made.
