David Byrd is an artist who lives in upstate New York. He spent his early years in a series of foster homes, then in the the Merchant Marines, and finally in Veteran's Administration Medical Hospital after attending art school on the G.I. Bill.

Byrd finally landed his first show at 87-years-old through his next door neighbor Jody Isaacson who is represented by the Greg Kucera Gallery in Seattle. "Introduction: A Life of Observation" contains the artist's paintings over the years, which often depict traces of his own life as a foster child. The show is truly representative of the thought that every day is a chance to seize the day.
