According to artist Kenny Scharf's Facebook page, last Friday, he spent "20 hours in two Brooklyn jails." In his typical, unashamed manner of art-making, Scharf told the police, "This is art. I did it. I’m sorry."
On the heels of his exhibition that just opened at Paul Kasmin gallery (which includes specially-made donuts from Doughnut Plant), it's definitely alarming that he would get arrested at this time. What's more alarming, though, is that he was arrested by police who claimed to be big fans of his work. He said, “Cops who arrested me were fans and wanted to talk about Exit Through the Gift Shop and even liked the tag.”
We'll report developments as we learn of them.
